‘Inter-textual-ventions’

A performative - informative lecture by interdisciplinary artist, curator Mike Chavez-Dawson who will focus on his ‘Artour’ [sic] bodies of work. These artours’ investigate the notion that ‘performative’ methods can be utilised as live interpretative texts to exude a playful yet critical eye over existing shows and collections in order to extend a symbiotic relation between the object and the live. He will also debut a ‘paragraphic-live-text’ piece titled ‘Bricks, Bush, Wood & Water’ that will draw a narrative between Carl Andre’s ‘Equivalent 8,’ a cover version of ‘Hounds of Love’ by Kate Bush and Michael Craig-Martin’s ‘An Oak Tree’.

More information on Mike:

“My art practice is interdisciplinary and research led, framed by an exploration into revealing the ‘myth’ of the artist’s intention/vision against the audience perception/reading. I intend to expand and challenge an audiences experience whilst offering alternative bridges/means to interpret. Collaboration, facilitation and non-sectarianism are at the heart of my creative endeavours. I am investigating by practice ‘the borders between performance and documentation from a contemporary visual art perspective’.” MCD, 2011

Mike Chavez-Dawson graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University, Interactive Arts BA (Hon’s) in 1997 and MA (Art as Environment) in 1999; he is now currently a PhD (by practise) research fellow at MIRIAD. Chavez-Dawson work’s crosses an interesting path of disciplines, such as fine art & design, performance, music, curating and publishing.
